GRADUATION OVERVIEW 2008 - 2009

As we look forward to implementing the thirteenth annual GPSA Graduation Program, culminating in the March 2009 recitals, we hope that preparations are well underway in every teacher's studio.

As before, all graduating students and their teachers are required to attend the March 22 Dress Rehearsal, held at the Main Line Unitarian Church in DevonBy February 17, teachers are to sign up for a 45-minute time slot between 1:00 and 7:00 PM on March 22.  Piano and string students will have separate rehearsal times, but there may be more than one teacher scheduled in each time slot.

The graduation fee is $30.00 for piano and guitar students and $40.00 for all instruments that require accompaniment.

Many teachers have observed an improvement in the overall quality of the graduation recitals since the inception of the program in 1997.  Teachers were glad to see that performances at Graduation have continued to improve in the areas of presentation and stage presence, as a direct result of participation in the dress rehearsal.  Please remind your families to do additional repeated listening in preparation for this event, so that we can continue to enjoy more musical and secure performances.  past years, we have noticed too many memory slips, as well as lack of musicalflow, indicating We are hopeful that the underlying purpose of the Graduation Program -- to raise the standards of teachers and students with each successive year – will continue to be met, as we offer an ongoing opportunity to recognize each student's musical accomplishment.  Teachers benefit from the educational process of listening to other teachers’ students, both on videotape and in performance, as well as preparing their own students to make a high quality recording of two pieces.

The following documents are included in this email: Teacher Information: graduation overview with a list of teacher jobs and graduation level repertoire, and graduation program information.  Parent Information: a letter to parents and a studio application form, both of which teachers will need to copy for their participating students.  Please read all of the information carefully.  Specific listening points for each instrument’s graduation level pieces will be sent in a separate email.
